How RoadWindow Works

Navigation apps help with the route. RoadWindow helps decide when to leave so you spend as little time in traffic as possible.

Leave Now or Wait? (v1.3 Feature Spotlight)

When you need to travel today, RoadWindow evaluates an immediate 90-minute decision horizon. By comparing leaving right now against leaving in 15, 30, 45, 60, or 90 minutes, RoadWindow determines whether waiting will save you meaningful driving duration without delaying your arrival target unreasonably.

The 4-Step Departure Optimization Process

1

Specify Your Route

Select your exact departure point and destination using Google Places search or your current location. RoadWindow supports exact venue addresses, area hubs, and city boundaries.

2

Set Departure Window & Stay Duration

Choose your goal (Leave Now or Wait, Best Time to Go, or Arrive By / Be Home By deadline), departure availability window (“When can you leave?” presets: Morning 6–10 AM, Midday 10 AM–2 PM, Afternoon 2–6 PM, Evening 6–10 PM, or Anytime 6 AM–10 PM), and stay duration.

3

Predictive Traffic Window Analysis

RoadWindow evaluates real-time and predictive traffic conditions across candidate departure times for both outbound and return legs, applying strict Pareto dominance filtering and time-aware availability checks.

4

Recommendation & Google Maps Handoff

RoadWindow highlights the single best departure window with expected driving durations, full journey chronology, and total savings compared to peak hours. When you are ready to drive, a single click opens Google Maps navigation with your exact destination pre-filled.

Key Engineering & Product Boundaries

  • Decide When, Not How: RoadWindow specializes in departure timing. Navigation and turn-by-turn directions are handled entirely by Google Maps.
  • Round-Trip Stay Optimization: For fixed-stay and best-round-trip plans, RoadWindow evaluates both the outbound travel time and the return travel time after your stay, ensuring you aren't recommended an outbound time that lands your return drive straight into rush hour traffic.
  • Realistic Awake Hours: Active planning availability spans 6:00 AM – 10:00 PM in Metro Manila time to ensure recommendations match awake and active hours.
  • Constraint Planning (Arrive By & Be Home By): For deadline-driven travel, RoadWindow evaluates departure candidates against your required arrival or home deadline, applying a 15-minute safety cushion for Arrive By and enforcing return home timing for Be Home By.
